UWMHC - European Champions 2010

Freshers ‘10

We hope you’re excited about coming to Warwick. Hopefully this page will give you some information about the club and how to get involved in October.

If you have any questions at all or just want to let us know you’re coming to Warwick this year, feel free to get in touch with us using the “Contact us” tab and fill out the form and we’ll reply asap. Thanks

Sports Fair:

The Sports Fair is the best chance you will get in that first week to check out the club . It’s most likely going to be in the Sports Centre but you’ll get told about it a thousand times when you arrive at Warwick. Grab a couple of your new housemates and go and look round. Mens Hockey will have a stall so come and say hello and sign up to our email list. They’ll be loads of us from the club standing about to give you more info on the club and they’ll probably be a few of us knocking a ball about somewhere.

Trials:

Trials for new members of the club will take place on the first wednesday of term (Weds of your first week). The date will be announced as soon as we know. Trials tend to go on for about 3hrs overall so make sure you bring plenty of water! It doesn’t really matter what you wear though any shirt with a number on it would be helpful so the captains can identify you easily. Please bring a stick, shin pads, gum shield if you have them though if you are a beginner then we’ll have some sticks to borrow.

Astros:

The astros are the grey rectangles in the F1 square of this campus map:

Matches:

League matches for all 4 competitive teams will start on the first Saturday of term (The Saturday at the end of your first week) with the MRHA league and the following Wednesday (BUCS league). Can see fixtures on mrha and bucs websites if you’re interested in which leagues the various teams play in.

Fitness:

The captains of the teams have advised all current players to work on their fitness before the new season and this extends to people joining the club in October. How much you do is up to you and the standard you hope to play at but if you can do some running/sprinting training in the month or so leading up to the new season it will really help you when you come to club training and play in matches. Our two coaches will probably work us pretty hard in the first few training sessions of the season so preparation will make it a lot easier for you!

The club looks forward to meeting you.
