“Chris Barnett scored an absolute worldie, and you can see just how good a job the UWLHC did of filming it on our Instagram page”
After a summer of internships, soul searching, and in one case, a European tour more extensive than that of an aging rock band with serious debt problems, the UWMHC returned to Leamington Spa to begin the new season. After a gruelling first day, a makeshift side featuring 3 fresher’s was thrown into a game against local rivals Berkswell. The game was played at a high tempo, and despite tired legs we ran out 4-3 winners, securing bragging rights for the season. The following few days followed a similar pattern of fitness, small sided games and recovery work in the pool, before a second fixture against a talented Stourport side. This time tired legs took their toll, and despite only trailing 2-1 at half time the game got away from us in the second half and we lost 5-2. There was plenty to be encouraged about though, Chris Barnett scored an absolute worldie, and you can see just how good a job the UWLHC did of filming it on our Instagram page… In the second week Warwick sports new strength and conditioning team put us through our paces testing stamina and sprint endurance as part of the new performance sport program. Then it was off to Bristol for Pre-season tour. Here we fielded 3 sides, with the First team winning 3-1, the Second team losing 3-0 and the Third/Fourth team losing 5-0. Bristol’s strength in depth was enhanced by their already having the full intake of freshers to choose from. Fortunately the boys levelled the score in the ensuing boat race restoring some pride. It has been a fantastic 12 days, with the club looking in great shape to start the season strongly.
