The run finally ends
Where the ball would just not go into the goal
I'm not going to focus on the game much at all - it was a feisty game and one which several members of both the team and supporters club were wondering how the score was what it was. The Value didn't play their best, and unfortunately, their luck came to an end when after conceding first they finally couldn't perform one of their signature comebacks. A mix of interesting decisions and poor finishing condemned the Value in this game, but this does not mean that the season has finished on a low - with an astonishing points tally this year, second in BUCS and the BUCS Midlands Plate firmly in their grasp all of the boys of the UWMHC 4s can hold their heads up high.
I've mentioned the run previously - 20+1 games unbeaten. Let that sink in for a moment. In just over 1 consecutive DAY of playing hockey, the boys in red and white failed to lose. 1470 minutes without tasting the bitterness of defeat.
It's crazy, isn't it?
It's fair to say that most people have enjoyed this season; Cam has led the team exceptionally well, despite shouting matches with me nearly every game, Ash has done what he does best and lets his hockey do the talking and not his Alice band, Chris and Legge have been solid at the back, teaching the newly formed central defensive partnership of Jamie and George the ropes. Gramms and Griphook have shone in teaching the freshers tactics about the press and tracking back, Harry and Olly I dare say will look forward to working closely up the top of the pitch with each other, Rahul might finally have to let go from the 4s, Barrett will continue to improve on the massive scale we've seen so far this year, and Brew might eventually turn up with all of his kit the right way round.
And Me? Well - I can confidently go on record in saying that this season has been quite possibly one of the best if not the best I've ever had. I've enjoyed every single moment, from coming back from behind in both games against Beeston to win, the absolute scenes of the cup run with the win via flicks in the final and subsequent pitch invasion, or even just having our own mini Varsity against Cov 2s and dispatching them in the BUCS league.
But now, it's time for one of the last occasions I will ever say those fateful words, those which hold such meaning to every member of this team be they regular or infrequent guest, present member or past alumni...
Aye Aye the Value
